My animation featured on this website...

...of French online magazine FASCINESHION, done for a film by Berlin artist Meyoko. My brief was to illustrate a sequence of the film inspired by the tibetan opera. The entire film can be watched here, my animation starts at about one minute into the film.

Go and See...

...Kung Fu Panda.
An easy one to sit through, but nothing not to be missed. In terms of the animation I didn't find it in the slightest as exciting as for example Pixar's 'Ratatouille'. The story and script are so-so, I did like the fact that it got by without a love story.

P.S.: If you wanted to, you could learn how to draw Panda in five steps here. (Example below)

Go and See...

...Be Kind Rewind

Not my favourite Michel Gondry but still very entertaining, especially the first half with the remake of Ghost Busters which is so funny, you're lucky if you've been to the bathroom before the film started. The story behind the film is not a shocker but still quite sweet and the remake-ideas make it worth watching though I think it is very self-referential, in that the ideas the two characters have, are actually very clearly Michel-Gondry-Style and not likely to pop into the heads of those two video store employees.

Go and See...

Juno

Didn't like the first half of the film, but the second half is really good (it takes an interesting and surprising turn) and the film as a whole is very fresh and worth seeing. Bit over done on the Indie style for me, though, esp. because the animation at the beginning tries hard but doesn't really succeed, I think. Nice and unusual acting and good music (Moldy Peaches).

2 Glasses of Water

I spent all of yesterday experimenting with an animation method I had been thinking about for a while: painting directly onto the scanner glass and then scan each frame. Really exciting.

Patisserie Pixelation

Finally blogger has managed to upload this movie properly, the original attempt to post about this quick pixelation project is here.
Pixelation is a method whereby you take a sequence of still pictures to animate an object. I.e. by moving an object a little bit between each picture it will appear to be moving once you play the pictures in sequence.

Construct A Vision

Final 45 seconds Title Sequence for fictional futuristic Architecture documentary. Live action combined with animation, specifically composed soundtrack and designed font, using AfterEffects, Illustrator and Final Cut. Best heard with speakers, as Laptop speakers etc. won't be able to pick up the sound (which consists only of recorded sounds of building sites, assembled into a track) properly!
The original brief can be found here.
Group work with Alex Harrison, Tim Keeling and Rob Woodland.

Argumentative Typography

3 Compositions for representing an argument typographically, (original brief here).

Initial Idea Sketches

Composition One:
Representing the 'maze' an argument can become: There are always several reactions, i.e. 'aggressive' and 'calming' reactions.

Final Composition

First Sketches

Composition two: Two sides to each argument. Only using blue or red glasses you can read each side of the argument properly. There is also white Letraset on white paper to represent aspects of arguments, which only become apparent when looking/listening more closely.

Final Composition, hand rendered Guache and Letraset

Computer rendered type to be traced later

Screen colour tests

Experiments with styles and colours

Initial Sketch

Composition three: Flipbook. Hand-rendered type, animated in Flash, single frames printed on stickers. One sticker per page.

Quick Pixelation

No idea which bug Blogspot swallowed now, this video is not supposed to look anything like what you can see above, however I quite like it so I'll leave it on the post and will try to upload the video again in a little while.
